Our demand to #DefundNYPD by at least $1 billion is a floor, not a ceiling. Cutting at least $1 billion DIRECTLY from the NYPD’s expense budget will automatically yield additional savings from other City budget areas including fringe and pensions that should also be redirected to support our communities in the COVID-19 pandemic. Moving cops from the NYPD to other agencies will not decrease police violence or yield monies that can be reinvested in our communities. Speaker Johnson, Mayor de Blasio, and the City Council must cut the NYPD’s FY21 expense budget by at least $1 billion and invest it into our communities.
A budget is a moral document that represents the priorities of our city. Tell city leaders to prioritize basic human needs over criminalization. #DefundNYPD
The deadline to pass a New York City budget for Fiscal Year 2021 is June 30. It's important to act now to demand #NYCBudgetJustice from city leaders!
